This is my second hull, made from the Martin Garrett plans.MAR3196. As you can see, I made a few changes to Mr. Garrett’s plans, and it worked out fine. Inspiration came from a photo of a Mathis –Trumphy Yacht “Freedom”. Ripple is about 30 inches long, about 8” wide. -Deck, hull bottom, and cabin are left over 1/8 plywood. -Ribs are Home Depot Paint stirrers -The hull is sheathed with sign maker’s styrene, donated to me by a friend. -I used a fine tip magic marker to scribe plank marks into the deck. -Doll house furniture worked good for the stern. -Designed to accept either a 7.2 volt stick battery or a 6 volt gel cell battery. -Lifting the forward hatch is the on/off switch and the light switch. -Seven LED lights make her very visible for night runs. -A nothing special 500 can motor, a “blue”speed control, & 6volt SLA battery -I have gotten 3 hrs plus of run time. Keep in mind this is not a high speed hull, Ripple looks a little silly running at planning speeds. As a flat bottom hull, she also tips (leans) in high speed turns, although I have not got her to tip over yet, I slow down for tight turns. I started out with a flat rudder and it was OK but not great. I switched to a tear dropped (fish tail) design and that worked much better. My first boat made from these plans was a harbor tug, the entire boat is made from Home Depot paint stirrers. An interesting project and another article.
